Reported Cases of Gastroenteritis ("stomach flu") Virus and Precautions
Health Center Staff and campus Environmental Health and Safety officials are working with the County Health Department to identify any possible common cause for several cases of gastroenteritis ("stomach flu") reported on campus during this past week. The cause is not completely known at this time. The University has instituted standard protocols to minimize the risk to community members.

Threatening graffiti prompts heightened campus awareness
Executive vice chancellor Alison Galloway has informed the campus of threatening graffiti discovered in a Social Sciences 2 bathroom; the graffiti warned of violence on January 18. While graffiti is common on college campuses, the university nonetheless takes threats seriously. Erring on the side of caution, campus administration decided to share the information with the campus community. And to ask for your help.

Governor's budget announcement
Gov. Jerry Brown today announced a budget plan that, if approved by the Legislature, would slash public spending by $12.5 billion. The governor's proposed budget includes a cut of $500 million from the University of California's budget, as well as a cut of $500 million from the California State University system. The scope of these cuts is of grave concern to everyone who cares about higher education in California.

Natural gas outage affects some colleges, other areas of campus
At approximately 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, campus crews shut down a natural gas line that serves a large area of the campus core. This action was taken in response to a report and confirmation of a leak in a low-pressure line at the intersection of McLaughlin Drive and Chinquapin Road. Campus crews are on site.
