It is a pleasure to announce the appointment of an interim dean of the Division of Physical and Biological Sciences. Paul Koch, professor and chair of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, has agreed to serve as interim dean, effective July 1.
Paul is an internationally renowned scholar of paleontology, ecology, and geochemistry, and he brings considerable administrative experience to this appointment. He joined the UCSC faculty in 1996 and has served as department chair since 2006.

As previously announced, current dean Stephen Thorsett will assume a new post as president of Willamette University on July 1. The campus will conduct a search for a permanent dean during the 2011-12 academic year.
