Staff Advisor to Regents—call for applications

To: UCSC Staff Employees

From: Assistant Chancellor Ashish Sahni

This July, a new staff advisor will join the UC Board of Regents. Chancellor Blumenthal and I very much hope the new staff representative will be a member of the UC Santa Cruz community.

Now in its fifth year, the staff advisor program fosters two-way communication between UC staff and the board. Staff representatives serve as non-voting advisors to designated regents' committees, and they attend and participate directly in committee and board meetings throughout their term of service. One new staff advisor is selected each year for a two-year term.

All employees are encouraged to learn more about the program at the staff advisor web site (www.universityofcalifornia.edu/staffadvisors). Questions should be directed to Jeannene Whalen, UCOP Employee Relations, at (510) 987-0853 or via e-mail: Jeannene.Whalen@ucop.edu. Application forms will be available beginning Jan. 18, and applications will be accepted Jan. 18 through March 4, 2011.

Chancellor Blumenthal is eager to support the nomination of UCSC candidates. If a UCSC staff member is selected, the chancellor would be happy to personally coach and mentor him/her throughout the two-year term.

Staff are impacted by all aspects of university operations and policies. I encourage all UCSC staff and non-Senate employees to consider applying for this opportunity to serve as the voice for UC staff during these challenging times.
