The UCSC Library is pleased to announce the selection of the vendor who will operate the new Global Village Café located in the McHenry Library lobby. After a year-long process, including consultation with faculty, staff and students, and after issuing an invitation to our local café owners, the selected vendor is the locally owned Hoffman’s Bistro and Patisserie. The Hoffman family has been a successful café owner for more than 25 years and have deep connections to Santa Cruz and the campus. Adam Hoffman, the manager of the Global Village Café, is a UCSC alum (2003), and so is his mother June Hoffman (1974) and father Edward Hoffman (1976), who are the owners of the downtown Hoffman’s location. There is also a long-term connection to the sustainable food movement as Edward Hoffman was one of the original apprentices under Alan Chadwick.
The Global Village Café is a new café located inside the newly renovated and expanded McHenry Library with indoor seating for 68 patrons. The café will offer a menu that includes coffee/espresso drinks, soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts with an emphasis on fresh and healthy ingredients provided by our local farmers.
The Global Village Café’s soft opening will be on September 15 in preparation for the grand opening scheduled to coincide with the first day of instruction on September 22. Please come by and join the Library in welcoming Hoffman’s Bistro and Patisserie to the UCSC community.
