As you may know, the Hahn Student Services building never opened today (Monday) after protesters blocked entrances to the offices there. In the afternoon, several dozen protesters entered the locked building and gathered in an area that included the Financial Aid Office on the second floor. We have been in communication with the people who remain inside the building tonight.
We both support free-speech rights and are concerned about tuition increases and other impacts of never-ending state budget cuts to UC. But we cannot support a protest that deprives all of our students of essential services.
We have asked that units affected by the closure of the building set up temporary offices elsewhere on Tuesday. These offices will reopen at the Stevenson Event Center on Tuesday morning.
In addition to Financial Aid, other student services impacted include the Registrar's Office, Undergraduate Admissions, Student Housing, the Cashier's Office, the Disability Resource Center, and Summer Session.
The service our dedicated staff can offer in this temporary space will not meet the needs of every student who would normally seek help at Hahn; but we know that our staff will do what they can to help our students.

Sobre: Protesta en Servicios Estudiantiles en Hahn
Como usted sabe, el edificio de Servicios Estudiantiles en Hahn nunca abrió hoy (lunes) después de que manifestantes bloquearon accesos a las oficinas allí. En la tarde, varios docenas manifestantes entraron en el edificio cerrado se reunieron en una zona que incluye la Oficina de Ayuda Financiera en el segundo piso. Hemos estado en comunicación con las personas que permanecen dentro del edificio esta noche.
Apoyamos tanto los derechos de libertad de expresión y nos preocupamos por los aumentos de matrícula y otros impactos de interminable recortes presupuestarios del estado para UC. Pero no podemos apoyar una protesta que priva a todos nuestros estudiantes de servicios esenciales.
Hemos pedido que las unidades que fueron afectados por el cerrado del edificio establecer oficinas temporales en otros lugares el martes. Estas oficinas reabrirán en el Centro de Eventos de Stevenson en la mañana el martes.
Además de Ayuda Financiera, otros servicios estudiantiles que fueron impactados incluyen la Oficina del Registrar, Admisiones Pregraduados, Vivienda Estudiantil, la Oficina del Cajero, el Centro de Recursos de Discapacidad, y Sesion de Verano.
El servicio que nuestro personal dedicado pueden ofrecer en este espacio temporal no satisfarán las necesidades de cada estudiante que normalmente sería buscar ayuda en Hahn; pero sabemos que nuestro personal hará lo que pueden para ayudar a nuestros estudiantes.
