Carnival Cruz and Prediction Walk/Run

This is one Friday the 13th you won't want to avoid!  On Friday, May 13, UCSC Wellness brings a mini-vacation to all students, staff, and faculty via Carnival Cruz and the Prediction Walk/Run.

The 2nd Annual Carnival Cruz is a free event that will take place from 11:30am-2:30pm on the OPERS East Field.  Participants can enjoy free healthy snacks and nutrition demos, race through the inflatable obstacle course, give acupressure a whirl, put on temporary tattoos, play a game of giant Twister, climb up the rock wall, and much, much more.  There will also be a real live goat for everyone to hug!  The first 250 people to arrive will receive a free tote bag.  No advanced registration is required-- just show up!

The 22nd Annual Prediction Walk/Run is another free event that will take place during Carnival Cruz, with the staff/faculty/retiree heat starting at 11:30 am, and the student heat starting at 1:30pm.  Here's how it works:  each person on a team of four predicts his/her time to run or walk a distance of 1/2 mile.  The captain of the team then adds those predictions together to calculate how long, in minutes and seconds, the team will need to complete 2 miles (four 1/2 mile laps).  During the relay, one person from the team will hand the team's baton on to the next person. Participants do not have to run or walk fast to win the event, since the closest actual time to the predicted time wins!  Costumes are encouraged (although not required), and prizes will be given to the top three teams, in addition to the "best-dressed" team and the team with the most creative baton. No watches or timing devices allowed!  All participants receive a stainless steel water bottle, not to mention the benefits of exercise and fresh air. Teams must register in advance, and participation is limited to the first 60 teams per heat that register.
