UC Santa Cruz has an international reputation for excellence, risk-taking, and ingenuity across the disciplines. The 2011 Founders Celebration will spotlight UCSC’s cutting-edge achievements while celebrating nearly a half-century of proud traditions.

Friday October 21 - Foundation Forum and Founders Celebration Dinner:
This year’s UCSC Foundation Forum, scheduled for 3 p.m., at the UCSC Music Recital Hall, will take the audience to the new frontiers of the war against cancer, with biomedical and genetic research at the forefront. The forum, "At the Dawn of Personalized Medicine: Transforming the Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer," will feature David Haussler, professor of biomolecular engineering at UCSC, in discussion with Nobel prize-winning American immunologist and microbiologist J. Michael Bishop and Genentech chairman and former CEO Arthur D. Levinson. The moderator will be Dr. Moira Gunn, host of Tech Nation.
The 2011 Founders Celebration Dinner will be held at the Cocoanut Grove on the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The evening will include a celebratory dinner, awards presentation ceremony, and video tributes to each award recipient. The dinner's honorary co-chairs will be UCSC Chancellor Emeritus Robert Sinsheimer and William A. Lee, senior vice president of research at Gilead Sciences, Inc.
