Construction crews are expected to begin major roadway repair work Monday, June 20th on Heller Drive between Meyer Drive (the access road to Performing Arts) and the Core West Parking Structure access road. Work will include demolition of the existing road, pavement grinding, excavation, grading, installation of a full roadway overlay, pedestrian access improvements, and road striping. The project's estimated completion date is September 1st.
Two-way traffic control will be in place during the duration of the project. Drivers and transit riders should expect up to three-five minute delays in both directions while construction is underway. The main campus entrance is recommended as an alternate route to avoid construction-related delays. Additionally, the necessary use of large construction equipment will occasionally create noisy conditions near the project corridor.
Bicycle traffic will be rerouted at both ends of the project corridor to an alternate route along Steinhart Drive, the Kerr Hall service road, and along Meyer Drive through the Performing Arts complex. Bicycle detour signage will be posted to assist in way-finding. Pedestrian access and crossings will be open during construction. As always, drivers are urged to use caution when traveling through the project corridor, especially when construction workers are present.
