Please plan to attend the 27th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Convocation on Monday, January 31, at 7 p.m. at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, 307 Church Street, Santa Cruz.
Our featured speaker and honored guest this year is civil rights activist Terrence Roberts, presenting his talk, "Simple, Not Easy: Reflections on Social Responsibility and Race." In 1957, Roberts was among a group of students who were the first African Americans to attend classes at Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas.
A campus shuttle will be provided for transportation to the Civic Auditorium and return to campus after the event. The bus will depart from the East Gate at 6:15 p.m., pick up passengers at the Perimeter Route stops, and arrive at the Civic at 6:45 p.m. The bus will be in front of the Civic to return riders to campus at the conclusion of the convocation.
Bringing together UC Santa Cruz students, faculty, staff, and members of our wider community, the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Convocation celebrates the life and dream of the late civil rights leader by reaffirming the human ideals of freedom, justice, community, and opportunity.
The event is free of charge and open to the public; no advance ticketing is required.
