Professor Ladusaw received his Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1979. After serving as an Assistant Professor of Linguistics at the University of Iowa and a Visiting Professor of Linguistics at UCLA, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Linguistics at UC Santa Cruz in 1984. He was promoted to Full Professor in 1994. Professor Ladusaw has held important academic administrative leadership positions on the UCSC campus since 1997, including Provost of Cowell College (1997 - 2003), Linguistics Department Chair (1997-1999), and Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education (2004 – 2010).
