I learned this morning that offensive graffiti was discovered in a men's restroom at Cowell College. The graffiti included a specific threat against "Mexicans."
This incident is deeply disturbing, and I want to remind all members of the campus community that we do not tolerate hate speech of any kind on this campus.
Police are investigating this incident as a potential hate crime. If you have any information about this graffiti, please contact UCSC Police immediately at (831) 459-2231. Reports may also be made anonymously online or by calling 459-3TIP (459-3847). The graffiti itself was removed after authorities documented it for their investigation.
I want students, staff, and faculty to know that support is available to anyone who has been affected by this incident.

Esta mañana me enteré sobre un graffiti ofensivo que fue descubierto en un baño de hombres en el Colegio de Cowell. El graffiti incluía una amenaza específica contra los "mexicanos".
Este incidente es muy preocupante, y quiero recordar a todos los miembros de la comunidad universitaria, que no se toleran el discurso de odio de cualquier tipo en este campus.
La policía está investigando este incidente como un crimen de odio potencial. Si usted tiene alguna información sobre este graffiti, reportelo inmediatamente a la Policía de UCSC al (831) 459-2231. Usted puede hacer su reporte de forma anónima por línea de internet online o llamando al 459-3TIP (459 a 3.847). El graffiti fue removido después de que las autoridades lo documentaron para su investigación.
Quiero hacerles saber a los estudiantes, el personal y la facultad sobre el apoyo disponible para cualquier persona que haya sido afectada por este incidente.
