Campus services during Wednesday's strike

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: Public Affairs

As previously shared, UC Santa Cruz and the other UC campuses will have several labor unions on strike this week. The labor action is expected to run all-day Wednesday, from midnight to 11:59 p.m.
Though we do not know how these strike activities will impact the operation of our campus, university officials are working to do everything they can to ensure services continue.
Academic activities
The campus expects to hold all classes, discussion sections, labs, and office hours as normal.
Students should be in communication with their instructors about contingency plans in the event campus is inaccessible.
It is strongly recommended that everyone allow for additional time to get to their destination, given that transportation service is an area that will be impacted.
TAPS will give highest priority to providing Disability Van Service clients transport between on-campus locations while suspending the Bike Shuttle and regular Loop and Upper Campus shuttle services.
Depending on the number of drivers who report to work, TAPS may be able to run a minimal level of shuttle service, and a limited number of smaller, volunteer-based vehicles will be on-hand to supplement this service. Other options include Lyft, Uber, Zipcars, JUMP bikes, providing or sharing a ride with a friend, or connecting with someone through Zimride, biking, or walking when able.
Those planning to use Lyft, Uber, Zipcars, JUMP Bikes, or Zimrides should sign up for the service in advance.
We anticipate METRO routes serving campus will drop passengers off at the base of campus only, then detour around the Bay/High intersection, with buses laying-over on Meder and Cardiff streets to maintain regular service schedules.
Provided sufficient staffing is available, up to three dining halls will be open during the strike; however, dining hall hours will be limited from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the types of prepared food available will be limited as well. We also anticipate that all cafes and restaurants operated by UC Santa Cruz Dining may be closed.
