After 15 years of extraordinary service to UC Santa Cruz, concluding a 31-year career with the University of California, Tom Vani, vice chancellor of Business and Administrative Services, has announced plans to retire this spring.

Tom has provided stellar leadership during a period of vast change and considerable challenge. His numerous contributions include overseeing construction during a period of significant campus growth, guiding the campus through the production of our Long-Range Development Plan, modernizing business practices and improving efficiencies, and implementing sustainability programs that have positioned UCSC as a national leader in the field.

Tom has been a trusted and thoughtful colleague and campus leader. We appreciate his forward-looking approach, strategic thinking and innovations, solid management style, and wise counsel. His talents and abilities are visible to us every day, and they are even more apparent when Tom is guiding us through campus emergencies. Given the broad scope of his responsibilities, we know Tom has touched the lives of the entire campus community. On behalf of UCSC, we express our deep gratitude for his years of dedicated service.

We will be back in touch with details regarding how we plan to move forward. For now, please join us in congratulating Tom on his well-deserved retirement.
