Bay Tree renovation coming winter 2026
The Bay Tree Building will undergo renovation in 2026, creating new student spaces, a reimagined market, and a central home for Resource Centers.
The Bay Tree Building is set to undergo a transformation that will bring fresh energy, modern design, and new opportunities for connection right to the heart of campus. Subject to successful bidding this fall, a major renovation will begin in winter quarter 2026 and is expected to span 14–18 months, with completion targeted for August 2027. The project will create a space that is more welcoming, more accessible, and more reflective of the ways students learn, gather, and thrive today.
Plans call for a brand-new student lounge, an expansive open area for meeting, studying, and hanging out, a reimagined campus market designed with student needs in mind, and a central home for the campus resource centers. Bringing these services together under one roof will make it easier than ever for students to access support, build community, and feel at home.
To make way for this renovation, several departments currently in the Bay Tree Building will be moving to new locations over the coming months. Some of these moves will be temporary during construction, while others will become permanent homes. Key updates include the temporary relocation of the Resource Centers from Bay Tree to Crown Provost House in early fall. The Campus Store will also move temporarily to the Granary, with timing still to be determined. In addition, the Quarry Plaza tabling area and Bay Tree meeting rooms will go offline during the renovation, though the schedule has not yet been finalized. Alternate spaces for events, meetings, and other gatherings are being identified, and details will be shared as soon as they are available. View the full list of departments and their new locations.
This renovation represents a shared commitment to creating spaces that inspire belonging, collaboration, and care. As the transition takes shape, campus communications will help keep students informed and connected, ensuring the journey to a revitalized Bay Tree is as smooth as the finished space will be vibrant.
