Transforming Undergraduate Advising report and recommendations
The Transforming Advising Workgroup has developed recommendations to support a more consistent, student-centered undergraduate advising experience. The campus community is invited to review the report and recommendations and share feedback.
Dear campus community,
We are sharing the Transforming Advising Workgroup’s recommendations for undergraduate academic advising at UC Santa Cruz. The recommendations build on years of campus work and input from students, advisors, staff, faculty, and campus leaders.
Our goal is to ensure every undergraduate has a consistent, student-centered advising experience, with clear and proactive support throughout their time at UC Santa Cruz.
The report recommends a future advising model that would give each student a clear advising home and dedicated point of support. Each student would have a single assigned academic advisor at any one time, supported by an advising team with expertise in academically aligned majors and minors. The model would bring greater consistency and coordination to advising across campus while preserving strong connections with academic programs, faculty, departments, divisions, and colleges.
The recommendations establish a direction for transforming undergraduate advising, but significant work is still ahead. We will continue working with the campus community on how the model takes shape, including the groupings of majors and the structures to ensure robust connections among academic advisors and programs.

There will be additional opportunities to share feedback throughout the fall quarter, along with further campus discussions and Academic Senate consultation.
