UC Santa Cruz Distinguished Professor Emerita of Education Judit Moschkovich has been elected as a member of the National Academy of Education, one of the nation’s most prestigious honors for outstanding education-related scholarship.
The honor recognizes significant contributions to education research and policy. Moschkovich has published influential work advancing understanding of mathematical thinking, learning, and classroom discourse, particularly in linguistically diverse settings.
Moschkovich’s research focuses on sociocultural approaches to mathematics education, examining how language and interaction shape students’ mathematical learning. Her work has emphasized equitable participation in mathematics classrooms, especially for students who are bilingual or learning English, and has helped shape both theory and practice in the field.
