For more than 60 years, UC Santa Cruz researchers have played a pivotal role in tackling some of the most challenging problems affecting individuals and communities, while also preparing the next generation of researchers who will help the nation remain at the forefront of discovery.

This crucial work is often supported through funding from national science agencies, like the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. From breakthroughs in cancer research to improved agricultural production and energy-efficient AI, we’ve accomplished a lot alongside our federal partners. But Congress is currently considering whether to cut budgets for these agencies, which would be a major blow to innovation, at UC Santa Cruz and across the country.
