Accreditation assessment team for UC Santa Cruz Police Department invites public comment

A team of assessors from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) will arrive on April 28, 2025, to examine all aspects of the University of California Santa Cruz Police Department (UCSC PD) policy and procedures, management, operation, and support services, Chief Kevin Domby announced today.

IACLEA accreditation signifies an ongoing commitment to excellent, state-of-the-art performance in every aspect of operations. The IACLEA Accreditation Program – developed by and for campus public safety professionals – offers an accreditation process for campus public safety agencies at colleges and universities across the country.

Verification by the team that UCSC PD meets IACLEA’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of campus public safety professional excellence, Chief Domby said.

University members, agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments by calling (831) 459 - 3042 on April 29, 2025 between the hours of 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm. Comments will be taken by the assessment team.

Telephone comments must address the department’s ability to comply with IACLEA’s standards. The IACLEA Accreditation Standards Manual is available on the IACLEA website (www.iaclea.org).

Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the UCSC PD’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may email them to jmurphy@iaclea.org.

The UCSC PD has to comply with hundreds of standards, in order to achieve accredited status, Chief Domby said. “Seeking IACLEA accreditation has helped UCSC PD ensure we are able to serve the campus community with the highest integrity and best practices.”

The interim accreditation manager for UCSC PD is UC DAVIS PD’s Chief of Staff Kate Folker. The assessment team is composed of experienced campus law enforcement professionals from out-of-state. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, and inspect facilities where compliance can be witnessed. The assessors are: IACLEA Accreditation Team Leader, Peg Gant, and IACLEA Accreditation Team Member Dr. Lewis Eakins. Once the assessors complete their review of UCSC PD, they will report back to IACLEA, which will then decide if the department is to be granted accredited status.

Accreditation is for four years, during which the department must submit annual reports attesting to continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
