Effective September 30, 2024, the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) Orientation program will transition from the Division of Undergraduate Education (UE) to the Division of Student Affairs and Success (DSAS). This move positions Orientation within the Student Development and Engagement unit, with direct reporting to Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students, Garrett Naiman.
The Orientation program is vital in welcoming new students to UCSC, providing essential information, support, and resources to help them transition smoothly and thrive on campus. The alignment with DSAS aims to enhance the student experience by focusing on key areas such as early student engagement, student persistence, retention, and graduation rates.
The transition is expected to foster a comprehensive first-year experience by integrating Orientation with other student success units within DSAS. This strategic move will enable sharing of resources, expertise, and best practices, ultimately guiding students through their entire UCSC journey.
The Division of Student Affairs and Success is excited to welcome the Orientation Team as they continue their important work of helping our newest Banana Slugs find their place on campus. The shift promises continued growth and success for the Orientation program, further solidifying UCSC’s commitment to student success and holistic support.
