The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is honoring multiple employees of UC Santa Cruz's Fisheries Collaborative Program for their contributions as members of NOAA's Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC) community.
SWFSC has named adjunct professor Stephan Munch an employee of the year for his contributions advancing quantitative fisheries science, population dynamics research, and the development of novel methods with the potential to significantly improve fisheries forecasting and management.
SWFSC has also recognized several employees of UC Santa Cruz's fisheries-collaborative program as team members of the year. Administrative assistant Liane Bauer is being honored for "exceptional execution of outreach and education tasks, propelling NOAA Fisheries’ mission through community engagement and efficient project management."
Associate project scientist Cyril Michel was cited for securing external funding for—and leading two critically important grants on—Chinook salmon, "while demonstrating exemplary leadership of his research team."
Project scientist Desiree Tommasi was credited for demonstrating "extraordinary leadership" of the Climate and Fisheries Adaptation project, whose purpose is to study the impacts of climate change on forage fisheries off the U.S. West Coast.
SWFSC will formally recognize them and other honorees at an award ceremony on September 12.
