Encouraging remote work during commencement and last call for volunteers

To: UC Santa Cruz Staff and Faculty

From: Public Affairs

During 2024 Commencement ceremonies, Friday June 14 – Monday June 17, 2024, and with students moving out of the residence halls by Friday, June 14, heavy traffic is expected on campus over that four-day period.

With this in mind, wherever it is operationally feasible, employees are encouraged to work from home during this period. Some employees are needed on campus and not able to perform their work remotely. Check with your manager or supervisor to discuss your options.

If you need to come to campus, all non-commencement traffic should avoid the eastern side of the residential campus, more specifically the East Remote / Upper East Field area.

When possible, we encourage you to use alternatives to driving, including carpooling, biking, or public transportation. UC Santa Cruz affiliates can use METRO services on UCSC routes free of charge between June 14 and 17. Routes, fare information, and schedules are available here

Parking enforcement will remain in effect during all commencement ceremonies and celebrations, as well as during move-out. Contact TAPS (taps@ucsc.edu) if you have any questions about transportation.

The commencement team is looking for more volunteers to help out before, during, and after the commencement ceremonies. Join on your own or put together a volunteer team with your colleagues and sign up for a shift, or more than one, if you have the time.

To learn more about all things commencement, visit the commencement website. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to commencement@ucsc.edu.

Thank you for your support as we work to make commencement a memorable experience and ensure a smooth move-out process for the campus community.
