UC Santa Cruz welcomes new AVC for planning, design, and construction

To: UC Santa Cruz Campus Community

From: Edward D. Reiskin, Vice Chancellor for Finance, Operations, and Administration

Emil Zordilla will join UC Santa Cruz on February 26 as the new associate vice chancellor of planning, design and construction.

Dear UC Santa Cruz Community,

I am happy to announce the appointment of Emil Zordilla as UC Santa Cruz’s new associate vice chancellor for planning, design and construction. He will begin his position on February 26.

Zordilla is currently serving as the program director at Cordoba Corporation in Santa Ana, California, where he manages the planning, design, and construction of campus facilities, including projects at Citrus Community College District, Long Beach Community College District, and California State University (CSU) Long Beach, Dominguez Hills, and Northridge. Previously, he was the campus architect and director of planning and design at CSU Fullerton. Zordilla has a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Southern California.

The planning, design and construction function within PPDO plays a critical role in supporting the academic vision by ensuring that projects contribute to and support campus life while remaining sensitive to the surrounding natural landscape.

Zordilla will lead the campus’ growing capital program. His responsibilities will include developing and implementing an annual capital planning and budgeting process, managing existing and developing new capital projects - including stakeholder-informed design - and leadership and support for programs such as the new campus decarbonization and electrification initiative.

I want to thank the selection committee members and Elida Erickson, assistant vice chancellor for strategic initiatives and sustainability, who chaired the search committee.
