California minimum wage increase effective January 1, 2024

On January 1, 2024, the California minimum wage will increase from $15.50/hour to $16.00/hour pursuant to the California Labor Code. 

The minimum wage increase affects employees who are below $16.00/hour. Employees who are below the minimum will receive an increase equal to the salary range minimum. For biweekly paid employees, the effective date is December 24, 2023, the beginning of the pay period. For monthly paid employees, the effective date is January 1, 2024.

Please share this information with your impacted employees, and please note that salary increases are a departmental cost.

No Action Necessary

Staff Human Resources is working with the UCPath Center to update the payroll systems and bring all impacted employees up to their new minimum rates, which will be reflected on the January 17, 2024 (BW) and the February 1, 2024 (MO) payrolls.
