We have watched with deep sadness the unfolding violence in Israel and Gaza, and we are gravely concerned at the escalating conflict across the region. Our hearts go out to everyone in harm’s way and all who have been affected. Along with University of California Board of Regents Chair Richard Leib and UC President Michael V. Drake, we condemn this act of terrorism.
As a university, we are focused on providing support to those in our campus community who are impacted because of family in the region or other strong ties to the area. Video, images, and news accounts of the violence and destruction can be terrifying and difficult to process. If you or someone you know needs support, we encourage you to take advantage of the free campus resources available.
For students: Counseling & Psychological Services provides a wide range of mental health and wellness services. Slug Support provides help with basic needs and connects users to other campus resources. International Student and Scholar Services provides international students with support and resources.
For employees: The Employee Assistance Program offers personal counseling and support.
We realize these are difficult times for many. Let us all seek to center compassion, kindness, and a commitment to open and respectful discourse as we face these challenges together.
