Nominations open for Chancellor’s Innovation Impact Awards

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: John MacMillan, Vice Chancellor for Research

Dear Campus Community,

I am happy to announce that nominations are open for the Chancellor’s Innovation Impact Awards Program (IIAP) Innovator of the Year category. This program celebrates UC Santa Cruz’s faculty, researchers, staff, students, and community partners and the transformational work they do. Through their research and creative scholarship, they are finding innovative solutions to the most pressing global challenges and opening new ways of expression. This transformative work is happening across the arts, engineering, humanities, physical and biological science and social sciences.

The Innovator of the Year award recognizes faculty and associated project teams that may include staff and students for innovative work that, during the past 12 months, has resulted in societal impact or has reached a milestone that positions the innovations for near-term societal impact. Nominations are encouraged from all academic disciplines and areas of study. Up to two awardees will be recognized, and the lead faculty member’s project will receive a $10,000 research award to further advance their efforts.

All faculty, staff and students are invited to submit nominations; no self-nominations will be accepted. The deadline is November 1. The awardees will be announced on April 11, 2024.

I hope you will join me in honoring the contributions of UC Santa Cruz community members to our campus and far beyond by submitting a nomination for the Innovator of the Year.
