Fall move-in is just around the corner and we need your help to welcome our newest Banana Slugs to campus!
Move-in for new students will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 21, 22, 23, and 24. During that time, thousands of new students will arrive on campus. To ensure each and every new student receives a warm UC Santa Cruz welcome, we need over 250 volunteers to greet and direct students as they arrive on campus.
Specifically, move-in organizers are looking for volunteers to assist at East Remote Lot 104, Performing Arts Lot 126, and West Remote Lot 127 over the four move-in days. A brief description of tasks is included below, and more information will be provided at an (optional) Move-in Volunteer Training via zoom at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20.
Volunteer Tasks
- Traffic Directors - help students find their way to check-in
- Move-in Greeters - welcome students to move-in and direct them to their next step
- Line Directors - keep students and their belongings moving smoothly
- Student Shirt Distributors - distribute shirts to all new residents during check-in.
- Move-in Shuttle Drivers - shuttle students to and from the colleges/units as needed. Shuttle-drivers must be a UCSC employee and have a valid California Driver's License.
Volunteering for move-in is not only a fantastic opportunity to meet our new students, it’s a fun way to support them as they begin their UC Santa Cruz journeys. Having enough move-in volunteers is essential to creating a magical start for our students. We welcome and appreciate the support of the entire university community for joining us in this effort.
To volunteer for one or more shifts, please click on this sign-up sheet and select your preferred time slot (or slots!) before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19. You do not need to sign in or create a SignUpGenius account to volunteer for a shift. We encourage departments and teams to sign up together. This is a great opportunity to connect with staff, faculty, Alumni, and Silver Slugs Retirees.
All volunteers will receive a UCSC move-in T-shirt. Information regarding volunteer parking, check-in, and meals will be shared via email on Friday, September 8.
Thank you for helping us give a warm welcome to our new slugs! If you have any questions, please contact us at csladmin@ucsc.edu.
