New Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research: Csilla Csaplar

Csilla Csaplar joined UC Santa Cruz on July 6 as the new Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research. Csilla joins UCSC from Stanford University, where she has served as Director of Engineering Research Administration in the School of Engineering for the past six years. At Stanford, Csilla was responsible for all the sponsored research activity for nine School of Engineering departments, approximately 275 faculty, 1,000 awards, and $150 million annually.

Csilla spent the majority of her career at Stanford, having previously been the Director of Administration and Finance in the Department of Geophysics and in various contract and grant officer roles in the Office of Sponsored Research. Csilla began her career in research administration at the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and is a graduate of UCLA (bachelor’s degree in Biogeography) and California State University, East Bay (master’s degree in educational leadership). At UC Santa Cruz, Csilla will be responsible for the direction of multiple units within the Office of Research (OR), including the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP), Office of Compliance Research Administration (ORCA), and Proposal Administration.
