Announcing new AVC for Staff Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer

Dear Campus Community,

I am pleased to announce that Kamala Green will be joining Staff Human Resources (SHR) as our next Associate Vice Chancellor for Staff Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer effective July 17.

Kamala brings over 25 years of experience in human resources, and diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education and private industry. Before joining a consulting group,

Kamala was the associate vice president for human resources/special assistant to the president for equity & inclusion and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Officer at Mills College. She oversaw support services, including programming, policies and processes; developed a robust new hire orientation and onboarding program, developed and implemented the college’s antiracism plan; and oversaw compliance efforts with federal education rights and FERPA, among other duties.

As the Office of Equity and Inclusion executive director and the Title IX coordinator at Arizona State University, Kamala provided oversight of anti-discrimination/anti-sexual harassment/anti-harassment/non-retaliation cases and workplace behavior. She implemented institution-wide diversity initiatives and training for academic and non-academic units. As ASU’s Title IX and ADA officer, she monitored and oversaw the overall implementation of Title IX compliance at the university.

At Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Kamala was the senior human resources manager & chief diversity officer, working closely with senior leaders to implement diversity, equity and inclusion-related initiatives, including efforts to recruit and retain staff. She also served as the laboratory’s Title IX officer.

I want to thank Patricia Hardaway who has served as interim AVC for close to a year. Pat provided strong leadership through a time of change and was a valued member of the Finance, Operations and Administration Services leadership team.

I also want to thank the members of the search committee for their work reviewing and interviewing the candidates, as well as all others who took the time to meet the candidates and share their feedback. We had a strong group of finalists to consider, each offering unique skills and strengths.

Please join me in welcoming Kamala Green to UC Santa Cruz.  I look forward to working with Kamala to support the campus’ staff HR needs.

Sincerely,

Ed
