Eligibility criteria for policy-covered staff - general salary increase for 2023-24

To: Managers, Supervisors and policy-covered staff employees

From: Patricia Hardaway, Interim AVC Staff Human Resources Shelby Young, Compensation Manager

As previously announced by the Chancellor on April 26, 2023, the Office of the President has announced a 4.6% salary increase in the 2023-24 fiscal year for all eligible policy-covered staff. Please note, this salary program is contingent upon the UC’s allocation currently proposed for fiscal year 2023-24 in the State budget. We do not anticipate any changes, but the Office of the President will provide an updated announcement if adjustments are made to the current budget expectations. Below are the criteria for eligibility.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Non-represented career or contract employees with at least six (6) months of continuous service (hired on or before January 1, 2023).
  • On pay status or approved leave at the time of payout.
  • Has a “Met Expectations” or above performance review rating for 21-22.
  • Employees who transferred from another UC location who are otherwise eligible will be eligible at UCSC, provided there was no break in service between their appointments.

Exclusion Criteria

  • Individuals who separate from employment before the payout date.
  • Rehired retirees.
  • Limited, casual/restricted, per diem, floater employees and employees covered by collective bargaining agreements.
  • Individuals who have an “Improvement Needed” or “Unacceptable” 21-22 performance review rating or who have any disciplinary actions.

Salary increases are effective July 1, 2023 for monthly paid staff, and our goal is for eligible employees to see the increase reflected on their August 1, 2023 paycheck.

Salary increases are effective June 25, 2023 for bi-weekly paid staff, and our goal is for eligible employees to see the increase reflected on their July 19, 2023 paycheck.
