On Saturday evening, an unknown person set off a firework in a grassy area near the West Remote Parking Lot. Lighting fireworks on campus and in Santa Cruz County is against the law and incredibly dangerous, both because of the inherent danger of igniting explosive material and because of the fire risk on our campus.

People who accidentally start fires can be charged with arson and face severe consequences, including jail and fines.

Anyone with information about this incident should contact the UC Santa Cruz Police Department by calling  831-459-2231 ext. 1.
