Announcing our new Chief Campus Counsel

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: Chancellor Cynthia Larive

Eréndira Rubin will serve as the Chief Campus Counsel, beginning March 16.

I am thrilled to announce that Eréndira Rubin will serve as our Chief Campus Counsel, beginning March 16.

With more than 10 years of experience in higher education, Eréndira will lead our Office of Campus Counsel and continue to provide clear and thoughtful legal advice.

A collaborative leader with a deep understanding of the intricacies in public higher education, Eréndira effectively breaks down complex legal issues and offers helpful guidance to our leaders. I am excited to have her joining our leadership team.

Eréndira joined UC Santa Cruz in 2019 as Principal Campus Counsel, advising campus leaders on a wide array of legal matters, including intellectual property, privacy, data use, real estate transactions, contracts, licensing agreements, and labor relations.

Prior to joining our campus, she served as a university attorney at Santa Clara University for eight years. Eréndira earned her B.A. in History from the University of California, Berkeley, and her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.

I offer my deep thanks to Steve Drown, who served as interim Chief Campus Counsel during the recruitment process.

I thank everyone in our campus community who participated in this recruitment. I appreciate the feedback and perspectives you shared after meeting with the finalists. We had strong candidates to consider, offering unique skills and strengths. I believe our campus will be well served with Eréndira as Chief Campus Counsel.
