I am happy to announce that Edward D. Reiskin, our new Vice Chancellor for Finance, Operations and Administration, has officially joined us in Santa Cruz. His first day was Monday.
The scope and breadth of Ed’s experience as a public servant, his ability to successfully navigate complex environments and diverse stakeholder groups, and his competency in a host of areas over which he now has direct oversight on our campus make him a fantastic addition to our team. We published a story on Ed on our campus newscenter in December.
Ed has spent more than 20 years as a public sector administrator, most recently as the city of Oakland’s top administrative officer. His responsibilities in that post were expansive,and included executing and enforcing all of the city’s laws and policies, administering city affairs, and overseeing an operating budget of $2.2 billion, roughly 4,500 employees, and the city’s capital program. He holds a master’s of public administration degree from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, a master’s of business administration from NYU’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, and a bachelor’s of science in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
I offer my thanks to Biju Kamaleswaran, our Associate Vice Chancellor for Financial Affairs and Campus Controller, who has served as interim Vice Chancellor for Finance, Operations and Administration for the past year. The work of the division is vital to our mission, and the FOA team has continued to strengthen its services and support since Biju took the reins last January.
I am deeply proud of the work so many on our campus are doing, prioritizing student success; elevating our excellence in research, scholarship and creative works; fostering an inclusive and welcoming climate; and improving the efficiency, effectiveness and resilience of our operations. Ed’s background in the public sector, working to make a difference in the lives of the marginalized, aligns with the mission of our campus, and I am thrilled he is joining us.
