Downtown Day to welcome UCSC students back to downtown

UC Santa Cruz, the Downtown Association, the City of Santa Cruz, and the Museum of Arts & History (MAH) are partnering to bring students to see the vibrant downtown area Friday, October 7th from 4-7pm. Participating businesses will have “We Love Banana Slugs” or “Ask About a Banana Slug Discount” decals in the window to welcome students to their store.

A walk-in job fair will take place from 3-5pm at participating businesses for students interested in finding a job. Students should dress nicely, and have several copies of their resume for prospective employers.

Students can enter the Sammy Slug Raffle to win prizes, including the grand prize of $200 Downtown Dollars. Winners will be announced at the student rally in the Secret Garden at the MAH. Doors open at 5pm, and the raffle drawing will occur at 5:30pm. Students must be present to win. The first 200 students who check in at the information kiosk will also receive a Sammy swag bag filled with tons of goodies and items donated by downtown businesses. The kiosk is located in front of New Leaf Market at the corners of Pacific and Soquel Avenues.

The MAH will offer free admission beginning at 3pm for students, staff, and faculty as part of the First Friday ART Tour. A student ID is required for the Downtown Day activities.

Students taking public transportation can find the UCSC Metro bus schedule here.
