Statewide call for electricity conservation

From: Public Affairs

The California Independent System Operator has issued a statewide Flex Alert, which is a call for voluntary electricity conservation, from 4-9 p.m. today, Aug. 17, due to high temperatures pushing up energy demand and tightening available power supplies.

Higher-than-normal temperatures, which California has experienced statewide today, drive up electricity demand, primarily from air conditioning use. Voluntary conservation helps balance supply and demand. Consumers are urged to conserve electricity, especially during the late afternoon and early evening, when the grid is most stressed due to higher demand and less solar energy.

More information on the Flex Alert can be found online.
