Everyday, staff and faculty members at UC Santa Cruz support and further our mission, increase our impact, and support the success of our students. Achieving our goals is impossible without a dedicated staff and faculty community supporting our progress toward building an inclusive, resilient university centered on student success and world-class research.
We are excited to share that all eligible policy-covered staff employees will receive a 4.5 percent salary increase, and senate faculty and policy-covered academic appointees will receive a 4 percent salary increase, pending approval of the state budget. While the UC Office of the President does not anticipate a change, in the event the current budget expectations are altered, President Drake will provide an updated announcement at that time.
Salary increases are effective July 1, 2022 for monthly paid employees and June 26, 2022 for bi-weekly paid employees. Monthly employees should see the increases on their August 1, 2022 paycheck, and biweekly employees should see the increase on their July 20, 2022 paycheck.
For faculty, the salary increase will be effective October 1, 2022, and reflected on the November 1, 2022 paycheck. More information about the campus academic salary program, including an Academic Salary Equity Program, will be available soon.
Our staff and faculty members have done an incredible job over the past year, and we’re so pleased that they will be recognized in this way. More details regarding eligibility and any updates to pay dates will be communicated as details become available.
Update on staff equity program
This salary increase builds on the $5.5 million allocated in our three-year staff equity program that we implemented earlier this academic year. Our three-year program is designed to target employees whose salaries are furthest below market, and is predominantly impacting employees in lower salary grades.
During the first year of the program, the campus invested $2.5 million, which increased the salaries of more than 1,300 policy-covered employees with 71 percent of the funds going to employees who were at or below the 25th percentile. Salary increases ranged from less than 1 percent to 6 percent with an average increase of 2.46 percent translating to an average annual salary increase of $1,841.
In the second year of the staff equity program, we will invest an additional $1.5 million. Compensation levels of policy-covered staff will be reviewed in fall so that increases can be implemented in early 2023.
We deeply appreciate the contributions by our staff and faculty, and hope that our focus on equitable compensation will make UC Santa Cruz an even better place to work.
