Indoor masking is strongly encouraged

To: Campus Community

Like many other areas of our country, we have been experiencing increased COVID-19 positivity rates on campus. Santa Cruz County, and much of the surrounding Bay Area, are currently at the Medium level for community transmission, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Even though masks are no longer required from the State of California and in most UC Santa Cruz facilities, their use indoors, especially in high-density spaces, is strongly recommended. As a reminder, masks are still required for on-campus public transportation and in clinical settings, such as Student Health Services and at indoor COVID-19 testing sites.

Along with local public health officials, we strongly recommend indoor masking regardless of an individual’s vaccination status. Free surgical and KN95 masks remain available at various campus locations.

Thank you for doing your part in practicing this healthy community behavior.
