The West Coast is under a tsunami advisory after an undersea volcano erupted earlier today near the island nation of Tonga in the South Pacific.
The National Weather Service expects the main impacts to be strong rip currents throughout the day. The wave heights were expected to be 1 to 2 feet.
People are advised to move off the beach and out of harbors and marinas while the advisory remains in effect. Santa Cruz County is providing updates on its Twitter account.
