UC Santa Cruz has hired John D. Pine as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Alumni Engagement. Pine will lead a team that will build the strategic direction, organizational design, and long-term goals for alumni engagement, collaborating with the Alumni Association, colleagues in University Relations, and partners throughout the campus. Campus aims to provide a dynamic environment in which our 140,000-plus alumni are thoughtfully engaged and stewarded, yielding a life-long relationship with their alma mater, said Mark Delos Reyes Davis, Vice Chancellor for University Relations.
Pine comes to campus from New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) in the United Arab Emirates, where he is Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. There, he established NYU Abu Dhabi’s first comprehensive Alumni Relations and Annual Giving strategic plan. Before that he was Director of Alumni Outreach, Events and Programs at NYU’s Office of Alumni Relations in New York City, and Associate Director of Alumni Relations at the Goizueta Business School of Emory University in Atlanta. He earned his master’s in college student affairs administration from the University of Georgia, and his undergraduate degree in communication from Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts.
“John brings significant experience working with university and alumni leadership, identifying institutional priorities surrounding alumni engagement, and building the infrastructure needed to pursue them,” Davis said.” Everyone with whom he met in the hiring process noted his energy, understanding of and passion for the mission of UC Santa Cruz."
Pine is expected to join campus in February, but will work with UR leadership between now and then to continue to recruit for the Alumni Engagement team.
