This week we are preparing to welcome more than 9,000 residential students to our campus community. University Housing will open its doors for large-scale move-in activities beginning Thursday, September 16 and continuing through Sunday, September 19.
This is a very exciting time for our students and their families and an excellent opportunity for us to welcome them to our campus. However, residential Move-In has impacts on campus parking and traffic and we ask for your patience and flexibility.
We anticipate thousands of additional vehicles on campus during the Move-In period. This can create significant challenges for the campus community, particularly on Thursday and Friday. Principal officers and managers are encouraged to consider alternative work sites for staff members at the discretion of the supervisor, if operationally feasible. Additionally, we strongly encourage the use of alternative commute options to get to and from campus (such as sharing a ride or utilizing public transportation and Santa Cruz METRO bus service) to help accommodate the Move-In traffic. Now is the perfect time to consider trying a new way to get to campus and earn rewards on Cruz511. If you need to drive to campus during Move-In, it is important to note the following restrictions and alternative parking options:
Much of the parking on campus, including but not limited to Performing Arts Lot 126, Barn Theater Lot 122, Admissions Lots 117A and 117B, Hay Barn Lot 170, East Remote Lot 104, and spaces within many of the smaller lots near colleges will be restricted on different days during Move-In. To that end, we ask that you refrain from parking in specially posted lots / spaces designated for Move-In operations.
Some larger lots that will NOT be utilized for Move-In operations, and are thus fully available for regular use, include Core West Parking Lot 112, Hahn Parking Lot 101, Crown Lot 111A, North Perimeter Lot 150A and B, West Remote Lot 127 and Engineering Lots 139A and 139B. Finally, it’s important to note that, in addition to Move-In traffic, the roads leading to and from campus may be affected by local K-12 public school release times Thursday and Friday afternoons and typical visitor traffic over the entire weekend.
Full Move-In details and schedules for specific colleges and ARCH housing units can be found here. Thank you in advance for helping to support a smooth start to the new academic year.
