Kicking off search for Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Success

To: UC Santa Cruz Community

From: Chancellor Cindy Larive

I am pleased to announce the kickoff of the leadership recruitment for the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Success.

This position is vitally important for our campus. The Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Success drives our campuswide commitment to promoting equity, inclusion, and a sense of well-being for all of our students, enabling them to thrive academically, professionally, and personally.

The university will conduct a national search, and the search advisory committee will be co-chaired by University Librarian Elizabeth Cowell and Vice Chancellor of Business and Administrative Services Sarah Latham. The executive search firm Witt Kieffer will support us in developing a diverse pool of qualified candidates and engaging deeply with the campus community throughout the process.

Stakeholder meetings with the chairs and search firm will take place through the rest of May and June to provide feedback on the position and to help us describe the role fully and in a way that reflects the values and goals of UC Santa Cruz and the division.

Student forum: An open forum for all students with the search advisory committee co-chairs will take place via Zoom at noon on Tuesday, May 25.

Student survey: For students who wish to offer input via a survey, a link will be provided on the search page starting Tuesday, May 25.

For more information about the process, visit the search page for the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Success. Applications may be submitted beginning Aug. 2.

I am very grateful to interim Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Success Jennifer Baszile, who has served in that role since July 2020, and who has agreed to continue serving until the successful conclusion of the search. I am deeply appreciative of her efforts and the work of the division to broaden its scope as it transitioned last year into the Division of Student Affairs and Success and to support and engage our students through this difficult period.
