New opportunity for professional development

To: UC Santa Cruz Staff

From: Staff Advisory Board

The SAB is proud to be rolling out a new opportunity to help our staff participate in professional development. Using funds raised from generous UCSC community members, we are launching a pilot program this Spring to reimburse staff members for their registration costs for the NOW Conference that is hosted by UC Berkeley.

Any policy-governed staff member who attends the NOW conference can request reimbursement. Any staff member who is represented by a union can request reimbursement pursuant to the terms of their collective bargaining agreement.

The conference will be held on June 3rd and there is still time to register

To request reimbursement, you’ll need to:

  1. Register for the conference (see link above)

  2. Attend the conference on June 3rd

    1. Be sure to download an agenda or other proof of attendance.

  3. Apply for reimbursement when the process is announced in a future Tuesday Newsday.

  4. Wait to be contacted by the SAB with a reimbursement decision.

    1. Important note: due to our limited funds, we will only be able to grant reimbursement to 22 staff members. So, it is possible you might attend, request reimbursement, and not be selected to receive the reimbursement.

Our hope is that this opportunity will be the first of many that will allow us to offer scholarships more broadly in future years. Of course we will also need to continue fund raising to be able to fund our program, so stay tuned for Giving Day announcements and other opportunities where you can give back to the staff in our community!
