Winter break reverting to Dec. 24 to Jan. 3

To: UC Santa Cruz Staff and faculty

From: Chancellor Cynthia Larive and Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Lori Kletzer

Dear Colleagues,

We very much appreciate the feedback we received from so many of you regarding UC Santa Cruz's planned winter curtailment. Together we received letters and emails from many staff and faculty members, as well as input from the Academic Senate Executive Committee, Staff Advisory Board, and members of the chancellor’s cabinet. The response was overwhelmingly in favor of reverting back to the original, three-day curtailment period.

We heard you, and we have received approval from the Office of the President to make this change. The winter break will now begin Dec. 24 and end Jan. 3 with Dec. 28-30 as three days of campus curtailment that can be taken using vacation leave. Staff who wish to use vacation or other approved leave during the Dec. 21-23 period may do so with their supervisor’s approval.

We anticipate that the Office of the President’s wider curtailment proposal will be shared soon. We will communicate once the details of the UCOP plan are known.

Sincerely,

Cindy and Lori
