Arts dean search

To: UC Santa Cruz community

From: Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Lori Kletzer

I write today to update you on our search for a new Dean of the Arts Division.

First, I want to offer my deep gratitude to Ted Warburton, who has served as interim dean since February 2019. Ted’s integrity, compassion, vision and collaboration is evident in his leadership and I am pleased that he has agreed to remain in the post until a permanent replacement is in place. I am deeply appreciative of his efforts.

We have now launched a national recruitment for the position and have assembled a search committee that will be co-chaired by University Librarian Elizabeth Cowell and Social Sciences Dean Katharyne Mitchell. We also have retained the executive search firm R. William Funk & Associates to assist us in the recruitment.

For more information about the search, a full job description, a list of the committee members, a recruitment timeline, and details on how members of the campus community can provide input on the eventual candidates, visit our Dean of Arts Recruitment website. If you would like to apply, please send a letter of interest, CV, and a statement of contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion to Krisha Creal at krisha.creal@rwilliamfunk.com. If you wish to nominate someone for consideration, also email krisha.creal@rwilliamfunk.com.

The recruitment will be entirely done through Zoom and we are aiming to have a new dean on board by July 1.

Contact Lauren Morgan at llmorgan@ucsc.edu or Krisha Creal at krisha.creal@rwilliamfunk.com with any questions.

This is a very important search for our campus and I look forward to your participation and input.
