UCSC has partnered with Ennead Architects and brightspot strategy (an experience design consultancy) to help imagine the future of Thimann Labs and a new Interdisciplinary Instruction and Research Building (IIRB) and we need student input! To date we have been working with a core group of students, faculty, and staff. We want to get feedback on what we’ve developed and continue the conversation. Our goal is to design experiences that can fulfill the vision for the building:
The new IIRB prioritizes equity and inclusion by demystifying & diversifying scientific instruction and student research and inviting students to create their own scientific identities and be at home in the sciences.
We will be holding four virtual “feedback fairs” to capture your input. Please stop by our virtual workshop space on zoom and see what fellow UCSC students, faculty, and staff have developed, even if you just have 5 minutes! These are drop in sessions with a range of activities to get your feedback on the types of experiences that will drive the design for the new building. There are four sessions for different types of students. We encourage you to join the one that aligns most with your identity and experience.
- Feedback from Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) : Friday, 10/23 @ 12pm-1pm PST
- Feedback from the Disability Community: Monday, 10/19 @ 12pm-1pm PST
- Feedback from Undergraduate + Graduate Students, Drop-in: Tuesday, 10/20 @ 12pm-1pm PST and Thursday, 10/22 @ 3pm-4pm PST
The outcomes of this workshop will be summarized in a report and referenced by the architects throughout the design process to ensure they are aware of what students need.
We plan to use otter.ai for live transcription and are happy to provide additional accommodations as requested so that everyone can fully participate. Please include any accommodation requests in the form when you RSVP.
Thank you, and we hope to see you there!
