Kicking Off National Cyber Security Awareness Month

To: UCSC Community

From: Chief Information Security Officer, Brian Hall

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month, a national effort to help everyone stay protected whenever and however you connect. This year’s theme is ‘Do Your Part, Be Cyber Smart,’ and UCSC is proud to be a champion and support this safety and education initiative in October.

This year’s campaign is especially important due to most of us working, learning and teaching remotely. The themes dive into the importance of keeping connected devices safe and how you can do your part.

Each week in October, we will educate the campus on the following topics. Look for links in Tuesday Newsday or the ITS website.

Win Prizes!

Follow us on Twitter @UCSC.ITS to participate in weekly social media challenges. New this year is our Binge Watching challenge, where you can watch funny and informative videos produced by the National Cyber Security Alliance. Participating in these activities will help you learn more about cybersecurity AND be entered to win prizes!

Soon you’ll be hearing about a phishing education campaign that is kicking off in fall quarter - stay tuned. Doing your part in establishing effective cybersecurity practices, helps keep UC information and resources secure.

Thank you.
