Kresge College provost search

To: UC Santa Cruz staff and faculty

From: Richard Hughey, Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education

Dear Colleagues,

In 2020-21, the Division of Undergraduate Education is undertaking a search for the next Kresge College Provost

Kresge College, traditionally a college focused on media studies and media literacy, hosts the curriculum for City on a Hill Press, and regularly collaborates with the departments of Film and Digital Media, Games and Playable Media, the University Library, and Feminist Studies.

Kresge’s programs and student organizations including the Kresge Parliament, four student cooperatives, and the Common Ground Center have historically emphasized participatory democracy and consensus-based approaches to building community. The Kresge College staff, student leaders, and faculty strive to cultivate that approach with student-directed seminars. Notably this fall’s indigenous and trans-focused UCSC Arboretum Apprenticeship Program and traditional courses that emphasize student leadership including a core course that concludes with "Creative Interventions"—a unit dedicated to fostering student collaboration and thoughtful activism. Kresge College is also the annual host of a campus PRIDE celebration.

The initial review date for the position is Friday, November 6, 2020. Applications should be sent directly to me at rph@ucsc.edu.

College provosts are key campus scholar-administrators focused on the academic programs of their college, alumni connections, faculty community, and a multitude of other issues. Provost positions include release from half of their teaching load, a stipend, and summer salary. This position will begin July 1, 2021 and has a three-year appointment. Please feel free to contact me or a current or past provost, to discuss this position.

Sincerely,

Richard Hughey

Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Education
