Additional support for employees impacted by wildfire evacuations

To: UCSC Employees

From: Sarah Latham, Vice Chancellor, Business and Administrative Services

As fire threats continue to impact our region and Santa Cruz county, we know that many employees have been forced to evacuate from your homes. This adds stress to an already challenging time for you and your families.

We know that evacuated families use a variety of temporary shelter options, including friends, families and hotels. We also recognize that some of you do not have these options available to you. If you have been evacuated and you have no place to go, we are setting up support options. They are limited and intended for those employees who are without any other options. If you find yourself in this situation, you can contact Ryan Macleod at 831-566-0365  to receive information on how we might help.

As a reminder for all employees, an emergency can strike quickly and the fire threat remains in our region. Please continue to follow the Red Cross evacuation preparation guidance.

  • Be ready in a moment’s notice; be sure to pack belongings such as clothing, non perishable foods for your family and pets, medications and copies of important documents
  • Listen to local radio and television stations for updated emergency information
  • Confine animals in one room so that you can can find them if you need to evacuate quickly
  • Arrange for temporary housing at a friend or relative’s home outside the threatened area

More information can be found on the Red Cross Wildfire Safety website.

We will continue to update the campus community as the fire situation in our region evolves.

Thank you for all you are doing to support our campus community and each other through these challenging days. Our Slug community is such an amazing group.
