Campus power shutdowns on March 21 and 28

To: UC Santa Cruz community

From: Public Affairs

In an effort to reduce the carbon footprint of UC Santa Cruz, a two-megawatt solar parking canopy is being built at the East Remote Parking Lot. The new solar photovoltaic system will produce 2 megawatts of power, off-setting approximately 20 percent of our campus power demand, currently served by Pacific Gas and Electric.

The campus must install and test equipment for the new photovoltaic system. To complete this work, a power shutdown is required. On both March 21 and March 28, campus power will be shut off, allowing contractors to install and test all the equipment required to connect the photovoltaic system to the campus power grid.

Shutdowns

  • Saturday, March 21, 4 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

  • Saturday, March 28, 4 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

Please power down your computers, printers, equipment, etc., before these outages. Also, please note elevators will not be operational during these power outages.

Review the following four lists for the status of your building and check with your building coordinator if you have questions:
