Labor demonstration near main entrance | campus open

To: UC Santa Cruz community

From: Public Affairs

The AFSCME union’s Skilled Trades unit has informed UC Santa Cruz that its members are going out on strike beginning today, and will remain out indefinitely. There are approximately 50 workers in this bargaining unit, known as K7, and a group of about 10 people is demonstrating at the base of campus.

The residential campus is open, with teaching, research, and university business continuing as scheduled. Metro service to campus and campus shuttles are also currently operating as scheduled.

Operations continue as scheduled at other UC Santa Cruz sites.

Major updates to this information will be posted to our social media accounts (Facebook and Twitter), and on our 831-459-INFO line. If access to campus is impeded, we will update the campus community via CruzAlert.

The campus community should allow extra time in traveling to campus, given the possibility of traffic congestion near the base of campus.
