Campus reaches new contract with skilled trades employees

I am pleased to announce that UC Santa Cruz has reached a new four-year contract with its skilled trades employees. Union members ended their strike and returned to work today. The campus values the hard work of its skilled tradespeople and the managers and supervisors who help to maintain our infrastructure and keep the campus safe. 

Highlights of contract:

  • Pay:

    • Salary Adjustments: 21% across-the-board increases between December 2019 and October 2023, including 3% at ratification and 3% every October for the duration of the contract.

    • Market Equities: Equity increases for eligible staff members to reduce recruitment and retention issues and maintain market competitive wages.

    • Overtime: Daily overtime and double-time for shifts over 12 hours. 

  • Retirement: By mutual agreement, new employees will receive the same pension benefits as current bargaining unit members and agree to any changes negotiated in the AFSCME service (SX) successor contract.

  • Healthcare: Members will have reasonable limits on healthcare increases and agree to any changes negotiated in the AFSCME service (SX) successor contract.

  • Parking: Unit members will pay the same rate as other employees with a 10% cap on increases.

  • No Strikes: Employees are prohibited from striking during the life of the contract.

  • Duration: Contract duration through October 31, 2023.
